Setting Up an App Password in Office365

Modified on Fri, Feb 28 at 4:37 PM

If you Microsoft Office365 email account now requires multi-factor authentication, you will not be able to use your normal username and password for sending emails from ServiceLink or Solaria (using Simple Email).  You can work around this by setting up an "App Password" in your Office365 account to allow other applications to send email on your behalf.  This providers a different password to enter in Solaria and ServiceLink instead of your normal email password.  Use the following directions to create an App Password in your Office365 account.

1. Sign into your Office365 account using the following link:  http://mysignins.microsoft.com

2. Select Security Info on the left menu.

3. Click on + Add sign-in method and click on App password.

4. Enter a name for the application that will use the app password, such as "Acclaim Solaria".  This is for your informational purposes only.

5. Click on Next.  A window will display with the new Password.  Click on the copy icon button to copy it to your clipboard and paste it into a secure document.  You will need to save this and paste it into Solaria and/or ServiceLink for your email settings password.  This is the ONLY time you will see this password.  If you forget it, you will need to create a new app password.

6. Click on Done to finish.

7. In Solaria and/or ServiceLink, enter or paste in this password for your email account settings instead of entering your normal email password.  This allows the application to bypass multi-factor authentication but still send emails on your behalf in a secure manner.
