Using Gmail with Acclaim Solaria and ServiceLink

These instructions are for using a Gmail (Google Email) account with Acclaim Solaria using the Simple Email Messaging method of sending emails instead of using Microsoft Outlook to send emails. It includes instructions for setting up ServiceLink as well. Gmail settings must be changed to use 2-Step Verification and to have a password set up specifically for Acclaim Solaria and/or ServiceLink. 


Step 1: Enable Access in Your Google Account

  1. In a browser, log into your Google account. 
  2. Click on the apps icon in the top right corner of the page, then select Account. (Your icon will look different than this picture.) 
  3. Click on Security on the left side of the page. 
  4. Scroll up to the Signing in to Google section and turn ON 2-Step Verification. Follow the instructions for setting this up. 
  5. Click on the arrow to the right of the App passwords option. You will see this page: 
  6. Click on Select app and choose the Other (Custom name) option. 
  7. Enter a name you want to give for the application, such as “Acclaim Solaria”, then click Generate
  8. The following window will display. Be sure to write down the password, including all spaces. Click on Done when you are ready to continue. 

Step 2: Set Up Solaria

Set up the Workstation Settings in Solaria. After logging into Solaria, select Settings → Workstation Settings.

  1. Select the Simple Email Message radio button. 
  2. Enter the Email Server name of “smtp.gmail.com”. 
  3. Enter the Server Port of "587".
  4. Enter your Gmail account User Name. (The user name should be your email address but could be the text in front of “@gmail.com” in your full email address.) 
  5. For Password, enter your Google App Password that you set up in step 1 above. Be sure to include any spaces it showed you in the generated password. 
  6. Enter the From Email Address to show who is sending the email and where to reply to.
  7. Select the Use STARTTLS radio button.
  8. Click on Save Changes

You can make sure the settings work by clicking on the Send Test Email button where you can send a simple email to another email address of yours. 


Step 3: Set Up ServiceLink

If you integrate with ServiceLink and want to use your Gmail account to send out notifications, enter your account information as follows in Settings → My Company → Email/Text Settings:

Use the same Google App Password you created in step 1. 

After saving, use the Verify button to test the sending of an email message with these settings.
